PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS

Think Twice before Drinking Cow’s Milk

More and more scientific evidence points toward the fact that cow’s milk is only good for calves. Mark Bittman explains well the negative effects of dairy on a human diet emphasizing on the unhealthy aspects of it (lactose intolerance, allergies, high cholesterol, etc.) but also touching on the environmental and inhumane aspects of raising dairy cows. Please visit

Humans are the only species on Earth that drinks milk past infancy and from another species. Dairy products are not necessary in a healthy, balanced diet so to ingest products that sicken many people, exploit and kill billions of cows and their calves every year and cause environmental degradation is simply put, dishonoring to God.

Have a blessed day!

The most INCONVENIENT TRUTH!

Milk approved by the USDA meets allowable somatic cell counts (essentially an allowable level of blood & pus that determines the quality of the milk), so yes there is blood & pus in milk.

It is not propaganda; it's merely a fact.
Source(s):

BACTERIA

Cow's milk is allowed to have feces in it. This is a major source for bacteria. Milk is typically pasteurized more than once before it gets to your table... each time for only 15 seconds at 162 degrees Fahrenheit.

To sanitize water one is told to boil it (212 degrees F) for several minutes. That is a tremendous disparity, isn't it!

Keep in mind that at room temperature the number of bacteria in milk DOUBLE around every 20 minutes. No wonder milk turns rotten very quickly.

PUS

ONE cubic centimeter (cc) of commercial cow's milk is allowed to have up to 750,000 somatic cells (common name is "PUS") and 20,000 live bacteria... before it is kept off the market.

That amounts to a whopping 20 million live squiggly bacteria and up to 750 MILLION pus cells per liter (bit more than a quart).

1 cup = 236.5882cc 177,441,150 pus cells ~ 4,731,600 bacteria
24 oz (3 glasses) = 532,323,450 pus cells ~ 14,220,000 bacteria
(the "recommended" daily intake)

The EU and the Canadians allow for a less "tasty" 400,000,000 pus cells per liter.

Typically these levels are lower... but they COULD reach these levels and still get to YOUR table.

American women have been consuming an average of two pounds of milk per day
for their entire lives, yet thirty million American women have osteoporosis.
Drinking milk does not prevent bone loss.
Bone loss is accelerated by ingesting too much protein, and milk has been called "liquid meat."

"But yogurt is healthy", says the National Dairy Council. Not according to Professor T. Colin Campbell of Cornell University who says casein, a protein in milk, causes cancer. In a series of lab experiments he found that "we could turn on or turn off cancer growth by increasing or decreasing the amount of casein"

http://www.vegparadise.com/news22.html

Milk creates allergies:

Cow’s milk allergies create problems in the respiratory and/or digestive tracts with symptoms like post-nasal drip, sinusitis, excess secretion of mucous, catarrh, asthma, eczema, hayfever, vomiting, bronchitis, urticaria, sleeplessness, headaches, pimples, oedema (water retention), gas, constipation, diarrhoea, spastic colon, abdominal pain, and persistent colic. The allergies are caused by casein and beta lactoglobulin.

When dairy products are removed from the diet, the problems often clear up completely.

Cow's Milk is difficult to digest:

Cow’s milk curds are dense and difficult to digest. Low-fat and skimmed milk’s protein content is even higher, and has been shown to produce a higher calcium loss through the urinary tract.

After age 3 (when we are weaned) we do not secrete the enzyme rennin that breaks down milk protein, nor the enzyme lactase to digest lactose (milk sugar) and transform it to sugars that our body can use (glucose and galactose). Mature animals' and humans' bodies are not geared to drink milk.

From The China Study
P. 6, In an in-depth laboratory program investigating the role of nutrition, especially protein, in the development of cancer:

What we found was shocking. Low-protein diets inhibited the initiation of cancer by aflatoxin, regardless of how much this carcinogen was administered to these animals. After cancer initiation was completed, low-protein diets also dramatically blocked subsequent cancer growth. In other words, the cancer-producing effects of this highly carcinogenic chemical were rendered insignificant by a low-protein diet. In fact, dietary protein proved to be so powerful in its effect that we could turn on and turn off cancer growth by changing the level consumed.

Furthermore, the amounts of protein being fed were those that we humans routinely consume. We didn't use extraordinary levels, as is so often the case in carcinogen studies.

But that's not all. We found that not all proteins had this effect. What protein consistently and strongly promoted cancer? Casein, which makes up 87% of cow's milk protein, promoted all stages of the cancer process. What type of protein did not promote cancer, even at high levels of intake? The safe proteins were from plants, including wheat and soy.

From The China Study
P. 204, On Osteoporosis

Americans consume more cow's milk and its products per person than most populations in the world. So Americans should have wonderfully strong bones, right? Unfortunately not. A recent study showed that American women aged fifty and older have one of the highest rates of hip fractures in the world. The only countries with higher rates are in Europe and the south Pacific (Australia and New Zealand) where they consume even more milk than the United States.

From The China Study
P. 205, On Osteoporosis

...animal protein, unlike plant protein, increases the acid load in the body. An increased acid load means that our blood and tissues become more acid. The body does not like this acidic environment and begins to fight it. In order to neutralize the acid, the body uses calcium, which acts as a very effective base. This calcium, however, must come from somewhere. It ends up being pulled from the bones, and the calcium loss weakens them, putting them in greater risk for fracture.

P. 57, The Dairy Disaster

Mother Nature is no fool. All species, including ours, have just what we need to get by. She did not intend for grownups to suck their mother's tits. We don't need our mother's milk as adults, just like grown cows don't need their mother's milk anymore. We are the only species on the planet that drinks milk as adults. We are also the only species on the planet that drinks the milk of another species. We could be putting gorilla milk on our cereal or having zebra milk and cookies. Why cows' milk? Using the animal that produces the largest quantity of milk but is more easily housed than the elephant means more money for farmers. It has nothing to do with health or nutrition. Again, it all comes back to money. The dairy industry is a multibillion-dollar industry based on brilliant marketing and the addictive taste of milk, butter, and cheese. It has convinced most doctors, consumers, and government agencies that we need cows' milk. We have been told our whole lives, "You need milk to grow. Without milk, your bones will break. If you don't drink milk, you'll get osteoporosis. You need the calcium." Bullshit.

Researchers at Harvard, Yale, Penn State, and the National Institutes of Health have studied the effects of dairy intake on bones. Not one of these studies found dairy to be a deterrent to osteoporosis. On the contrary, a study funded by the National Dairy Council itself revealed that the high protein content of dairy actually leaches calcium from the body. After looking at thirty-four published studies in sixteen countries, researchers at Yale University found that the countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis --- including the United States, Sweden, and Finland --- were those in which people consumed the most meat, milk, and other animal foods.

Dairy Products Do Not Promote Bone Health

Milk YUCK!
One glass of cow milk contains a dropper full of green , yellow or white pus. Cheese has even more concentrated pus. It causes osteoporosis, an acidic body, is considered liquid meat, really clogs your arteries, and milking cows ...suffer massively more than a bull due to the extreme excessive milking. After a few years, maybe 4, all milking cows are taken to slaughter. Coconut and almond milk is cruelty free, with no antibiotics or growth hormone and is so delicious! Daiya vegan cheese is amazing and so is coconut ice cream, and tofutti cream cheese. Via

Did you know that Penn State Young Women's Health Study tracked eighty 12-year-old females for 10 years, and found that calcium intake had almost no effect on bone health, but exercise had a major effect... Similarly, the Harvard Nurses Health Study, which ran for 18 years, showed that those who didn't consume cow milk had stronger bones than those who drank 2-3 glasses of milk per day. Don Robertson

"The protein in milk, particularly casein, while perfect for baby cows, is too large and difficult for us to digest. Calves have a particular enzyme, rennin, not present in humans, that coagulates and helps breaks down casein. According to renowned nutrition researcher T. Did you know that lactose intolerance is not a disorder, it's quite normal... About 70% of the world's population loses the ability to digest milk sugars upon weaning, in around the third year of life. It's a signal that our bodies no longer need breast milk of any kind, especially from animals of a different species than our own. Don Robertson

"I came from a dairy farm and started my career strongly believing in the nutritional value of this food, especially for its protein content. But, in our experiments, we documented multiple times a remarkable ability of the main protein of cow's milk, casein, to promote cancer growth and to do so by a plethora of mechanisms. For many years, animal-based protein, like casein, has been known to increase blood cholesterol and encourage early stages of heart disease."

Hormones in milk can be dangerous

Did you know that the Harvard Nurses Health Study of 57,000 women showed that those who consumed the most calcium from dairy products had almost double the hip fracture rate of those who ate the least... Those findings are consistent with world health literature showing that osteoporosis rates are highest in the countries with the highest dairy consumption: Scandinavian countries, Holland, Great Britain, U.S.A., and Canada. Countries with historically low dairy consumption, like China and Japan, have had very low hip fracture rates, but they've begun eating more like Americans, and osteoporosis rates are now climbing.

Did you know that early exposure of children to cow milk products is linked to the development of type-I diabetes and other health problems... Type-I diabetes is a devastating disease that may occur when Insulin Growth Factor-1, from dairy, causes an infant's immune system to go into overdirve and destroy cells that release insulin. Dr. Frank Oski, former head of pediatrics at John Hopkins University, says “There’s no reason to drink cow’s milk at any time in your life. It was designed for calves, it was not designed for humans, and we should all stop drinking it today.”

John Robbins, author of "Diet for a New America" and "Food Revolution", is partnering with PETA in a lawsuit against the California Milk Board over their deceptive “Happy Cows Come From California” ad campaign.
Why I Am Joining PETA in Suing the California Milk Board Over Their “Happy Cows Come From California” Ad Campaign

Did you know that the vast majority of people on earth do not consume dairy products; nor do they experience problems related to bone density... It seems unlikely that humans could be the only species on earth that requires breast milk into adulthood, or that we would need milk from a different species. The dairy industry often presents images of "happy cows" - said to be fulfilling their purpose on earth by providing humans with milk. They don't tell us the ugly reality behind milk production... that we make cows pregnant every year, take away their babies shortly after birth, steal their milk, and then kill most of their calves or confine them in tiny veal crates for three months
and then kill them.

Dairy preventing osteoporosis is complete BS.
MILK and OSTEOPOROSIS.

If you think milk builds strong bones, why do Americans—the largest consumer of dairy products worldwide—have astounding rates of osteoporosis and bone fractures (and cancers)?

More than ten years ago, the Harvard University Nurses' Health Study, with over 120,000 subjects, found that the consumption of milk and other dairy products does not protect against the bone fractures of osteoporosis (the bone-thinning disease that the dairy industry wants you to believe is related to too little milk in your diet). In fact, those in the study who drank three or more servings of milk a day actually had a slightly higher rate of fractures than women who drank little or no milk (American Journal of Public Health, Vol. 87 (1997), pp. 992-997).

In Western societies, we're told that calcium is the answer to preventing bone loss. However, it's not a lack of calcium that causes osteoporosis. Excessive intake of animal-based protein (which is always acidic) and a lack of exercise, magnesium and vitamin D cause osteoporosis. The Lancet, The U.S. Department of Health, and Harvard University call the link between meat and dairy based diets and osteoporosis "INESCAPABLE". Tobacco, salt and caffeine contribute to bone loss as well.

Animal protein contributes to the acceleration of osteoporosis because keeping blood at a neutral Ph balance always takes priority over keeping calcium-phosphate in the bones. Bones can hold out for years with insufficient calcium, but blood cannot because it needs phosphate to offset the acidity. When blood becomes acidic with animal protein, the body withdraws calcium-phosphate from the bones and uses the alkaline mineral phosphate to keep the blood's Ph level balanced. The calcium is then excreted through our urine. Animal products are the only sources of acidic protein. Plant protein is not acidic.

People who consume the least amount of animal protein, always have the lowest rates of osteoporosis, bone fractures and cancers because of their non-acidic protein diets. Cancer can only thrive in an acidic environment. Here are some studies that discuss the negative impact of animal protein: http://notmilk.com/o.html and www.thechinastudy.com/la-timesarticle.html.

The best sources of calcium are found in açaí, alfalfa sprouts, almonds, apricots, avocados, beans, brazil nuts, broccoli, cabbage, carob, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chlorella, coconut, cornmeal, dandelion greens, dulse, figs, filberts, grains (all), green vegetables (leafy), hazelnuts, hemp (milk/oil/powder/seeds), kelp, lemon, lentils, lettuce, lucuma powder, maca powder, mango, mesquite powder, millet, miso, nuts, oats, onions, oranges, parsley, prunes, raisins, seaweed, sesame seeds, soy, spirulina, sprouts (all), sunflower seeds, watercress, wheatgrass and yams.

Did you know that the Harvard Nurses Health Study established clearly that the primary health claim (that milk builds strong bones) for cow milk products is false. In fact, those who consumed the most dairy calcium, over an 18 year period, had double the hip fracture rate of those who consumed the least.

Did you know that a Harvard study of male health professionals showed that men who drank two or more glasses of milk a day were almost twice as likely to develop advanced prostate cancer as those who didn't drink milk at all...

Did you know that a case study of elderly Americans published in the American Journal of Epidemiology showed that supplementing the diet with cow's milk did not reduce the incidence of bone fracture at all...

"Don't drink milk for health. I am convinced on the weight of the scientific evidence that it does not 'do a body good.' "
Dr. Robert Kradjian, Breast Surgery Chief at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA, after reviewing 1500 articles published in medical journals dealing with the health effects of drinking milk

Did you know that protein content in the breast milk of different species varies according to how quickly the infants grow... Bovine calves grow about four times as fast as human babies, and that's why cow milk contains 20% protein, while human breast milk has only 5%... one more indication that cow milk is for baby cows, and not for humans.

NY Times columnist Mark Bittman suffered from chronic heartburn (nowadays called acid reflux) for years. He tried all kinds of remedies without success. Mark writes... "So, three months ago, I decided to give up dairy products as a test. Twenty-four hours later, my heartburn was gone. Never, it seems, to return."
