Animal cruelty makes 'a morally unsafe world for human beings'

The Chronic Disease Food Remedy

(RSV) 1 Corinthians 10:31
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
Every action can glorify God, even eating or drinking. So it only makes sense that what we eat or drink is, indeed, important. I can hardly imagine that eating the flesh or secretions of an animal who suffers unnecessarily could be honoring or glorifying to God. On the other hand, mindfully choosing foods that bring restoration and reconciliation in God's Creation, I believe honor and glorify God.
More Fruits and More Veggies Make You Happier
Yet, another study on the effects of food on mood and mental disorders indicates that consuming more plant-based foods is good for our emotional and psychological well-being. Although diet has not been a major focus by psychologists and psychiatrists, the growing evidence that what we eat does not only affect our physical health, but also our psyches, can no longer be ignored. Please visit More Fruit, More Veggies, More Happy

It seems natural that what we eat affects our well-being in every aspect. After all, food becomes part of our cells… food becomes us. Eating God’s animals is, in essence, eating fear, pain and suffering. On the other hand, eating plant-based foods infuses our bodies and souls with love, compassion, empathy and joy.

The raising of ducks and geese for foie gras production is banned in 22 EU nations. Now, prominent Members of the European Parliament have joined forces with the animal advocacy group "Animal Equality" to bring an end to foie gras production in the 27 nations of the European Union. Please visit MEPs put foie gras controversy back on the table

Foie gras production means torture for ducks and geese. It's inadmissible that, those who call themselves stewards of God's Creation, delight in the taste of a food that brings misery to God's animals. Taste and profit should not supersede compassion and ethics.
Exposure to Animal Agriculture Increases Prevalence of Nerve Damage
Via www.pcrm.org/
Beef and dairy farmers are more likely to suffer from numbness and weakness, characteristics of peripheral neuropathy, compared with farmers who do not work with animals, according to new analysis of 16,340 participants of the Agricultural Health Study. The authors hypothesized that exposure to the common intestinal bacteria Campylobacter jejuni leads to greater risk of symptoms associated with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Guillain-Barré Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that can lead to muscle and nerve damage; it has no clear origin, although it usually appears after a minor infection. Dairy farmers also had a significantly higher prevalence of blurred vision, compared with farmers who had no exposure to animals.

This internet world, techie though it may be, is linking us together in ways few could have imagined 100 years ago.  With it, the power of our prayers has grown exponentially along with the realization that millions of us are praying together for a world of peace for all beings.

Recently, I met a wonderful new e-friend when she ordered some of the animal prayer flags.  Her name is Erica Settino, and I want to share what she is up to, because I know you will love it.  Her group is called Karuna for Animals: Compassion in Action.  "Karuna," of course is the Sanskrit word for compassion.  Their website is http://www.karunaforanimals.com/index.html.
They are an all volunteer yoga based group "whose members seek to promote compassion (karuna), peace (shanti), and loving-kindness (metta) for animals of all species.  It is our mission to raise awareness and funds for the rights of all animals.  Through a dedicated practice of the science of yoga, community outreach, humane education, vegan cooking and nutrition education, and monthly fundraisers, we aim to cultivate the change we hope to see in the world." The group also has a goal of creating an Animal Sharanam (Sanskrit for sanctuary) on Long Island.
Suresh Jindal is quoted on the website: "Once we experience and feel this inter-dependence of all living beings, we will cease to hurt, humiliate, exploit and kill another. We will want to free all sentient beings from suffering. This is karuna, compassion, which in turn gives rise to the responsibility to create happiness and its causes for all."
Please visit Erica's website when you get a chance.  Not only is it lovely, inspiring, and informative, but it lets us know-there are so many of us holding the vision, doing the work, praying the prayers.  So this week, let us hold in our hearts a special prayer for all those out there, many whom we have not yet met, who are faithfully praying for the animals.  May the compassion and loving-kindness being endlessly sent out by all of them and by us radiate into every heart on earth.
Will and I and everyone here on the Circle of Compassion team thank you from our hearts for your efforts to reduce the suffering to nonhuman animals. No matter how long it takes, we are all connected in Divine Love and Truth.

May all beings, including all people, be happy and free.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy

Please visit the website www.circleofcompassion.org often to see updates and special prayers, and also to join in our "A prayer a day for animals" which features a prayer for a different group of animals each day of the week. It is also a place to send ideas or prayer requests.   Please forward this widely so that we may continue to add more people to our ever-expanding worldwide circle of compassion.

Meat-Eaters Responsible for Veg Meals Rise

Meat consumption is down and it seems logic to thank vegetarian and vegan people for this; however, the good news is that this positive trend seems to be caused largely by meat-eaters looking for healthier, delicious veg options when dining out and in their homes. Please visit Meat eaters lead rise in vegetarian options

When people are aware of the amazing positive impact that plant-based meals have on all Creation (God’s animals, our health and the environment) I believe that they tend to make better decisions about their food and this is reflected on the decrease of meat-consumption. Being informed and making mindful decisions help us live out our Faith.
