CRUELTY FREE HOLIDAYS, TRADITIONAL & INTERNATIONAL RECIPES

VEG HOLIDAYS, TRADITIONAL & INTERNATIONAL RECIPES

If any kid ever realized what was involved in factory farming they would never touch meat again.

I was so moved by the intelligence, sense of fun and personalities of the animals I worked with on Babe that by the end of the film I was a vegetarian.

THANKSGIVING

From the TWITTER Co founder: TURKEY LESS Gratitude for Creation Thanksgiving!
              THANKSGIVING prayer
We joyfully give thanks for this our meal of love and peace,
For no one's child lies on our plate.  None suffered for our feast.
We pray for peace on earth for all and grace to do our part.
To God and to all life we are connected heart to heart.

Twitter co founder will spend his Thanksgiving HANGING OUT with turkeys,
not eating them

Thanksgiving Vegan Sides!

You Haven't Lived Until You've Hugged a Turkey

Dear friends,

Madeleine and I wish you a healthy Thanksgiving and give thanks that you are
in our lives and on this planet helping to make a positive difference in our
world. Thanks for being you, and for making the efforts to awaken from the
cultural trance of automaton conformity and bring respect, kindness, caring,
and love to our Earth--your efforts do make a difference!

I've recently written a new article appropriate to today entitled The Vegan
Spirit of Thanksgiving:

I hope you'll be able to read it and share it with others.

Also, here's a much-loved poem by Shel Silverstein that captures an important
perspective for us all to remember:

Point of View

By Shel Silverstein

Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless,
Christmas dinner's dark and blue,
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.

Sunday dinner isn't sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck,
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of the chicken or the duck.

Oh, how I once loved tuna salad,
Pork and lobster, lamb chops, too,
Till I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.

I think the operative word here is "stopped" -- and all that it entails --
stopping is often a prerequisite for positive change and being able to really
go!

Finally, our dear friend Sandra Higgins from Ireland has created a short
video for us all to enjoy today -- it's called, "You Haven't Lived Till
You've Hugged a Turkey" -

That's it for now!

Be well and thanks for letting your living heart shine forth today!

Prayer Circle for Animals Weekly Update
Our prayers for all animals continue to circle the earth, to
uplift humanity's consciousness, and to bless the animals themselves.
Thank you for joining people around the world who are praying this
prayer in many different languages but all with the same love:
"COMPASSION ENCIRCLES THE EARTH FOR ALL BEINGS EVERYWHERE"
Our dear prayer partners, Shannon Murphy and Diana Stout, are inviting everyone to join them on Thanksgiving Day in fasting and prayer for the turkeys. This can be done wherever we are.  They wrote,  "The Thanksgiving holiday is a holocaust of horrific proportions for these gentle birds. More than 45 million are killed for this one holiday alone. I am deeply saddened and distressed that we so callously and mindlessly treat these beautiful beings so badly, Their short lives are filled with misery on factory farms, where they are often ill, injured and cruelly abused. I am ashamed that my species continues to mindlessly exploit and murder these sentient beings, especially as part of a celebration that is supposedly one of love, gratitude, thankfulness and sharing."

Mark Stroud of Cincinnati is coordinating a similar effort and will be including prayers for Native Americans as well.  He calls this holiday Reconciliation Day instead of Thanksgiving, in recognition of the holocausts of both Native peoples massacred by whites and of turkeys whose 45 million bodies now lie in the refrigerated sections of stores waiting to be eaten instead of given due respect.

Even if family responsibilities keep us busy all day, we can still spiritually attune ourselves to the energy field of these important remembrances and memorials.  Let us join Shannon, Diana, Mark and thousands of others in spirit on this day in mourning, remembering, respecting, and bearing witness.  May the millions of deaths not be in vain.  May hearts once closed to the obscene cruelty on their plates, suddenly break free of tradition and denial and join this ever growing circle of compassion for all beings everywhere.

And may we give thanks for the blessing of awareness of the sacredness of all life.  For we have somehow been given the great gift of seeing the truth of who turkeys really are.  We have discovered our true kinship with all living beings and the joy that comes from nonviolent living.  How rich we are!

Once more I'd like to share this mealtime prayer with you in case you would like to use it on this special day.

We joyfully give thanks for this our meal of love and peace,
For no one's child lies on our plate.  None suffered for our feast.
We pray for peace on earth for all and grace to do our part.
To God and to all life we are connected heart to heart.

In my prayers of gratitude, I think of you all who selflessly, for no gain of your own, continue to hold the most vulnerable and most exploited beings close to your hearts.  It is a sweet and precious comfort to them.
With Love and peace from Judy
May all beings be happy.  May all beings be free.

VEGAN Deli amazing world facebook album

Imagine what vegan Christmas would be like, in a vegan world.

We would have new songs and new stories we’d tell our children, of the time when vegan consciousness was born on Earth. We could still even call it Christmas, because didn’t Jesus say one day the Christ consciousness will dawn on Earth in all people? Isn’t Christ consciousness love gentleness and kindness?

In a vegan world then Christmas could be the celebration of the Christ consciousness being born in all of humanity, and the end of an era of extreme violence on Earth.

We could tell stories about how we suddenly realised that all bad things which had happened, wars, slavery, the abuse of one another, began when we started to use other animals as resources and kill them for pleasure, that this spiritually blinded us and cut out our hearts eye, disconnected us from our conscience.

The story would go that…seeing this we felt deeply sorry, and we stopped hurting the animals and began to love them again. As we did this our own hearts were healed.

There would be animal sanctuaries everywhere, as our central ritual and focus of life would not be consuming and using, but caring for animals and nature. So Christmas time could be a time of getting together with the animals in the sanctuaries and we would show them special acts of kindness and bring them festive treats, as a way of saying sorry for the terrible things we did to their ancestors in the past.

Christmas 3012 we could be teaching our children a story of how once upon a time around a thousand years ago we began to see ourselves as guardians of this earth and all our fellow creatures. How beginning to live this way made us happy finally because we stopped living for our own pleasure at the expense of others and began living with consideration and gentleness towards others.

Our Christmas ritual gatherings in the future could be not so much about getting together to consume, as getting together to celebrate and share with one another what we’d done that year for the good of all, which had best expressed our innate talent and abilities.

All that using our abilities to create wealth or impress, seeking for self not caring or even knowing who we harmed but living alone in our separate families tucking into the flesh of others who’d been abused and killed so cruelly, not caring that us doing that was polluting and destroying the Earth, and a billion people starved whilst they fed their grain to our cattle.

All that, would be a long ago distant nightmare which the vegan movement had brought to an end.
